报告名称:Collaborative Sampling: Data Aggregation over Wireless Sensor Networks

摘要:Wireless sensor network (WSN) data aggregation (DA) concerns the task of efficient information gathering over a sensor field. In this work, the WSN-DA task is formulated as a distributed constrained optimization problem. The objective is to obtain an estimate of the spatial distribution of the measured physical quantity using readings from a subset of sensors in a decentralized manner. In particular, based on the locally (one-hop neighbor) broadcast phenomenon of wireless transmission, a collaborative sampling (CS) application layer data aggregation protocol is proposed. With the CS protocol, individual sensor nodes is empowered to decide whether to report its local measurements based on its self evaluation of potential contributions to the overall quality of data aggregation. Furthermore, leveraging the slotted CSMA/CA (Carrier Sensing Multiple Access, Collision Avoidance) medium access (MAC) layer protocol, a distributed, probabilistic arbitration mechanism is established to allow the most contributing sensor node to report its measurements earlier, and thereby expedite the process of convergence to an optimal solution. With collaborative sampling, sensor nodes are able to “pitch-in” to contribute to a common good of the entire WSN without costly interactions via wireless channels. It is a novel, energy efficient data aggregation protocol the promises to transform the operation of cyber physical systems.
